In the example below, thanks to the stirrups, the compressed strut is less inclined. The point load is first transferred by the compressed strut on the right to the lower reinforcement. The horizontal component of the compressed strut is transferred through adhesion to the lower reinforcement, while the vertical component is carried upwards by the stirrups. It is assumed that all the stirrups experience the same force and will create, along with the compressive forces from the upper edge, a new compressed strut that transfers the load to the support.
